After his lecture, faculty and graduate students in Biomedical Engineering and other departments had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Marshall, the Chief Editor at Nature Biotechnology. Dr. Marshall shed light on the role and purpose of a scientific editor at a journal and provided helpful tips to students for when they are submitting their own research publications. Students learned about the typical commitments of scientific journal editors such as commissioning News and Views, Reviews, and Perspectives; editing manuscripts; and networking within the research community via conferences or lab visits. Overall, students were able to ask questions and learn more about the editorial process and what skills he found to be most helpful when applying to an editorial position.
