Regenerative medicine embodies tissue engineering and artificial organs and touches on all medical specialties from cardiology to obstetrics, cancer, trauma, and others. The ability to regenerate or replace tissue lost to injury or disease with biological substitutes is a medical challenge of the 21st century. These efforts require collaboration multiple disciplines including developmental biology, materials science, molecular biology, polymer chemistry, experimental surgery, and clinical medicine.
