Alexia Stylianou ’15 ScM’16 graduated from Brown with an ScB in Biomedical Engineering and an ScM in Mechanical Engineering. She graciously took some time off her busy schedule to answer a few questions about her life after college, career trajectory, and how she landed her first job.
PhD candidate Ben Wilks ‘15 and undergraduate student Braxton Morrison ‘21 recently attended the Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (oSTEM) annual conference in Detroit, Michigan. The conference was attended by over 800 students and professionals in STEM fields and took place November 14-17.
Three PhD students, one master's student, and one undergraduate student defended their theses this winter. The graduate degrees will be conferred in February. The undergraduate midyear completion celebration took place on December 7th, and a diploma will be awarded in May. Congratulations to the new graduates!
Brown’s SWE chapter sent 16 students to the annual Women in Engineering Conference this year. Students represented 7 engineering concentrations and included 5 BME undergraduates. The conference featured workshops, lectures, a career fair, and fun perks like tours of Disneyland California and complimentary massages and manicures.

Student Spotlight - Sahani Wijesinghe

Sahani Wijesinghe, is a first-year master’s student in the Biomedical Engineering Program. At a young age, she knew she was interested in the medical device sector, so she chose BME as her undergraduate degree because she wanted a field that merged engineering and medicine.
Two PhD students and one master's student defended their theses this summer. Their degrees will be conferred in October. Congratulations to the new PhDs and ScM!
The Brown University Center for Biomedical Engineering (CBME) held the first Town Hall meeting on October 3rd, 2019. The meeting opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Kareen Coulombe, Director of Graduate Study and Assistant Professor of Engineering and Medical Science, and was an open forum comprised of graduate students, faculty and staff, intended to encourage open dialogue between students and faculty.
Dr. Kimani Toussaint recently joined the Brown Community as a Professor of Engineering and is affiliated with Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
BME ScM student Kenzie Magnan started chasing after her engineering dreams when she was 9 years old, “I was one of those kids who tore everything apart. My parents got me an expensive robosapien for Christmas and within a week I’d torn it apart and started playing with the motor.”
