Ileana Pirozzi '18 is one of five recipients of the Brown University Distinguished Senior Thesis Prize.

The Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology, based at the Providence V.A. Medical Center and led by a Brown professor, received a $4.5 million funding renewal.

When asked why she pursued a PhD, Elizabeth Leary recalls her first job out of undergrad: “My boss was always wanting me to ask her questions, wanting me to design my own experiments, treating me not just as a tech, but as someone who wanted to learn and was curious.”

“It’s been really worth it to see something I designed to come out and be part of science,” says Rafael David González-Cruz. “There was a lot of me struggling and learning how to do things, but it was really rewarding.” Dr. González-Cruz recently defended his thesis in the Darling lab on mechanical property and gene expression heterogeneity in adipose-derived stem cell populations.

Assistant Professor of Engineering Anita Shukla has been awarded a Henry Merritt Wriston Fellowship for 2018-2019. Shukla is one of five recipients of the fellowship which is awarded each year to regular untenured members of the Brown faculty (assistant professors and lecturers) who have achieved a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship during their first years at the University.
